Polychromatic Rainbow Quilt
Polychromatic Quilt Pattern by Elizabeth Hartman
Back in the summer of 2022, I stumbled across this quilt pattern and instantly fell in love. Naturally, I did what any self-respecting quilter would do—I hopped online and ordered the exact kit from myfavoritequiltstore.com. (Impulse control? Never heard of her.)
I had just returned from the Sisters, Oregon outdoor quilt show, where I basically spent the entire day wandering around slack-jawed at the sheer amount of talent on display. It’s basically Disneyland for quilters and sewists alike.

Like I said, when this pattern popped up, it was love at first sight. The colors? Absolutely dreamy—rich, vibrant, and perfectly balanced. The background fabric? A gorgeous Robert Kaufman linen I’d never sewn with before. (Spoiler: me + linen = a little bit of a learning curve, but also a lot of swooning.)
Sewing with the linen was… let’s just say a bit of an adventure. At first, I wrestled the little thread shavings that seemed to multiply everywhere. But hey, I stuck with it! The pattern itself was nice and straightforward, which made it a great choice for a beginner. Once I got through the first few rainbow blocks, I started finding my rhythm—and before long, I was chain piecing like it was my new superpower. Watching those rows of rainbows line up was such a joy. It wasn’t long before my mind jumped ahead to the backing, and luckily, I was able to track down more of the same linen I’d used for the background.
For the quilting itself, I kept things simple—straight, intersecting lines stitched right on my trusty domestic machine. Nothing too fancy, just clean lines to let the fabrics do all the talking. I went with a natural white polyester thread, hoping it would blend in nicely without stealing the spotlight from those vibrant colors. And for the binding? I couldn’t resist keeping it classic with a Kona cotton called Pickle. (Yes, Pickle. Honestly, the name alone made me want to use it.)
Overall, this quilt was such a joy to put together—bright, vivid, and surprisingly quick thanks to the curated kit. Everything I needed was right there, which made the whole process feel smooth and stress-free. I’d absolutely give this project a 10/10 and recommend it to anyone looking for something colorful and approachable.
What I love most, though, is how cheerful it turned out. Every time I look at those rows of rainbows, I can’t help but smile—it’s the kind of quilt that instantly brightens a room and a mood. And really, isn’t that the best part of quilting?
