Giant Pink Pumpkin Quilt

Last fall, I was doing what I usually do on weekends—wandering around my local quilt shop pretending I might just “look” (ha!). While poking through their seasonal section, something stopped me in my tracks: a quilt kit featuring a big, bright, hot pink pumpkin with the cutest little patchwork background. Pink pumpkins? Yes, please. It was the perfect throw size for the couch, and I convinced myself I could whip it up a couple of weeks before Halloween. Plus, the pattern was free from AGF. A smokin’ deal and seasonal cuteness? There was no way I was walking out without it.

The second I got home, I tore open that kit like it was Christmas morning. Inside was a gorgeous mix of solids and fun seasonal prints pulled from various 2024 Halloween collections. Honestly, I barely paused to admire them before diving headfirst into cutting.

The pattern kicked things off with the star of the show—the oversized pumpkin—before moving on to rows of patchwork for the background. To my surprise (and let’s be honest, delight), I finished the entire quilt top in under a week. That almost never happens for me, so I felt like I’d unlocked some secret quilting speed mode.

A fun detail: my husband and I both fell in love with the subtle crow print fabric tucked into some of the grey patches. It became our favorite little “hidden gem” in the quilt. Even better, I tracked down the exact same fabric in a bold orange for the backing—absolutely perfect for Halloween. For the binding, I went with a Tula Pink print that played so well with the hot pink pumpkin.

For quilting, I stitched diagonal lines in a variegated pink-and-purple Isacord thread. It added just enough color and texture without stealing the spotlight from the pumpkin and patchwork. And the finished look? Chef’s kiss.

To finish things off, I added a little extra touch—a quilt tag from the Sarah Hearts brand. The label pack came with the cutest Halloween-inspired designs, everything from pumpkins to tiny ghosts. Honestly, choosing just one felt like the hardest part of the whole project.

This quilt quickly became a family favorite. In fact, it’s no longer just a “Halloween quilt.” It’s been permanently promoted to year-round couch duty, and honestly, I’m not mad about it. Bright pink pumpkins deserve to be celebrated all year long.
